FORGING OUR FUTURE IS UNDERWAY!

Since 1935, Pella Historical Society and Museums has promoted Pella's Dutch culture and heritage. Part of that privilege and responsibility is the stewardship of several historic sites, including our founder's home, the Scholte House, and the boyhood home of Wyatt Earp.

A $2.5 million Forging Our Future campaign is currently underway - a campaign that is making our historic buildings safe, secure, attractive, and visitor-ready.

Take a look below to learn about the progress we've been making through Forging Our Future.

Restore

The boyhood home of Wyatt Earp stands in the Historical Village in its original location. Wyatt and his family moved to Pella in 1850 and left in 1864. The home needs major renovations, including new windows and doors, tuckpointing and mortar, mold eradication, and structural work. This jewel on Franklin Street will once again be a shining star at the Historical Village.

Phase 1: Window Restoration and Exterior Masonry….................................................................................$450,000-$500,000 (underway)

Phase 2: Doors, Interior Plaster, and Mold Eradication…..............................................................................$200,000-$250,000 (complete)

Phase 3: Insulation, Other Repairs……...................................................................................................……….$25,000 (complete)

Other Projects

Several projects around the Historical Village need attention:

  • Our security system is more than 40 years old and needs to be replaced (complete).

  • Our archives are out of room and need some remodeling in order to store and conserve precious artifacts.

  • The buildings we are fixing up need to have funds available to do maintenance in the coming years.
